Do I Need A College Degree to Get a Job In Cybersecurity?
The bachelor’s degree is probably on of America’s most overrated products.[1] More Americans are getting degrees than ever before, yet they are experiencing huge problems with finding adequate employment. This beg’s the question: What the hell is going on?
Well, in my own naïve opinion, certain sectors have shrunken, while other doors have opened. There is likely an overabundance of liberal arts majors with unneeded skill sets. However, there is a huge demand for IT workers.
Getting a certification such as Security+ and building experience is a great route to go, even without a college degree. Entry level certifications are worth more than a plain Art History degree (not trying to be funny here, but sort of).
In short, a college degree does not guarantee prosperity, and getting a cybersecurity job does not require me. Don’t believe me, ask Apple, which dropped requirements for college degrees.[2]
